Description

Karhina Designs – Original Sustainable Textile Art and Creative Craft Workshops to learn new skills and inspire you to create.

I specialise in mending, hand stitching and free machine embroidery using the needle as my paint brush and am always exploring new possibilities and ideas. I create unique and distinctive designs in wall art, handbags and jewellery.

I offer Creative Workshops in Melbourne or further afield when invited. The workshops include visible mending, clothing reconstruction, hand embroidery, machine embroidery and creative sewing. I will teach you new skills and give you ideas inspiring you to create more. The workshops offer a fantastic creative experience, are value for money and lots of fun.

I have been making my clothes and mending since a teenager as I love to personalise my wardrobe through embellishment and visible mending.  We all know that fast fashion is not sustainable so we need to love the clothes we already own and work harder to make them last. By mending our clothes we create a bond with them ensuring we wear them longer.  I am happy to accept commissions to mend your old favourites.  Feel free to get in touch with me to discuss your individual piece.

The majority of my products are made incorporating up cycled, recycled or reclaimed materials. Wherever possible additional materials are 100 percent natural, produced sustainably and sourced locally.

This was a great beginners guide to mending! My friend and I had bags of clothes we wanted to get someone to mend for us and I came across this workshop. We were overdue for a catch up so it was a great way to spend some time together and we learnt lots of basics on mending things on garments that we can use in the future and save ourselves money in the long run. Tamaras workshop was great value for money she was very friendly and knowledgeable i would totally do another workshop to upskill in the future. She even let us take home things we would need to get our sewing kits started like thread/needle etc. thank you Tamara. River

Thanks Tamara for a wonderful class. The intensive 6 hour session was what I needed to get started on my embroidery journey; where I learnt more than 12 various stitches clearly, practice them with Tamara and able to ask questions whilst I was there. Tamara was very patient with me. There were also small little "tricks-of-trade" that she shows me, that may not have been easily found in books ot online-tutorials. That was very handy. Overall, a comprehensive class, I am ready to start my journey into embroidery.

Tamara is an excellent teacher, very calm and patient, with so much experience that she is willing to share. I received so much knowledge in addition to the skills that I had anticipated gaining. Tamara provided clear instructions and left me with confidence to take these skills further on my own.
