Beginners Guide to Dog Grooming

Participants must be aged 16 and above to attend this course.
Wanting to keep your pooch clean and tidy between grooms? Keen to improve your grooming and hygiene care skills for you canine friend? This short course will cover the basics of home grooming, bathing and nail care for dogs. It will cover points on:
- What can ethical dog grooming at home look like?
- Maintenance grooming to keep on top of your dog’s health and wellbeing.
- Learning techniques including nail trimming, ear cleaning, clipping*, and trimming around various areas such as pads, backside, armpits, and groin regions
(*clipping will be demonstrated and explained for the purpose of tidying intricate areas, full body style clipping will not be shown during the workshop)
- Tools used and techniques needed to de-shed and prevent matting.
- Ensuring safe handling and effective training methods to create a more enjoyable grooming experience for everyone involved.
The session involves some theory related to dog grooming skills, and also cooperative care training, demonstration of grooming skills and conditioning dog to grooming tasks skills, and some practice of scissor use techniques.
Please leave fur babies at home as we will be working with RSPCA behaviour tested dogs
Demonstrations will be held by industry professionals.

Age requirements
Participants aged 10 -14 will be required to be accompanied by an adult.

Cancellations & Refunds
If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
- A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. Free of charge.
- A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
- A credit note can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.

Terms and Conditions - Face to Face courses
- Program activities are conducted by RSPCA Victoria Education Officers and staff. RSPCA Victoria reserves the right to alter activities or cease programs should staff and participant safety be compromised.
- For safety reasons, participants must wear appropriate clothing and closed-in shoes.
- RSPCA Victoria reserves the right to cancel the class should minimum numbers not be met. A full refund will apply in these circumstances.
