Description

This workshop is suited to anyone interested in creating functional items not on the pottery wheel. 


No experience necessary.


Hand building techniques will be demonstrated including: 

- how to roll out clay to create small plates, pinch pots, trays & spoons, small planters.

- how to use a variety of stoneware clays & incorporate texture 

- clay & tools are provided.


All Items will be fired twice. Items will be glazed by the studio - and will be food safe. Students will be notified when work is ready to be collected approximately 3-4 weeks after. 


Students can make up to 5 items to fire and glaze. * If you would like to keep extra pieces made on the day there will be a small firing charge, please discuss with Sarah on the day. 


Enjoy some wine or non alcoholic beverage, and some cheese whilst learning how to hand build in a relaxed studio environment. 


Kids 8+ are welcome to join as long as they are accompanied by an adult. 


The studio is a comfortable working space with heating & air conditioning, complete with shop. EFT facilities & gift wrapping available. 


* a minimum of 6 students for this class to go ahead. 


Cancellations & Transfer Policy

Bookings cancelled up to 7 days prior to the class date will be refunded in full. Bookings cancelled 7 days or less before the class date will be refunded only if the vacancy can be resold at full price. If not resold the purchase price is forfeited. Alternatively, you are welcome to transfer your ticket to another person (please advise name of alternate within 24 hours of function).

What you will learn

  • How to work your clay into organic, free formed functional platters, pinch bowls, spoons.
  • How to incorporate texture and apply surface decoration.
  • How to create hand formed, organic pieces which can be used in the home.

What you will get

  • A set of your creations made on the day. Students will be notified once work has been glazed and ready to collect.
  • Grazing platter, a glass of wine & non-alcoholic beverages.

Please also note, that if you are driving you cannot park on Kent St as it’s permit only, try St David St or Moor St. 


What to wear

Casual comfortable clothes and closed in footwear.

No experience necessary. Children welcome if accompanied by an adult. Minimum age for children is 8yrs.


Sarah Schembri is a Melbourne Ceramic Artist who is passionate about creating functional, tactile and visually appealing ceramics, particularly tableware. Being a lover of cooking and food in general, she is most interested in making pieces that are a pleasure to use in the home, pieces which are not only visually appealing but also functional & tactile.

Refund Policy

1) REFUND POLICY - CLASSES

Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd requires 7 days notice in writing prior to the class for a refund or transfer to another date less an admin fee. 

Bookings cancelled 7 days or less before the scheduled class will be refunded less a 20% admin fee if the vacancy can be resold at full price. If not resold, the purchase price is forfeited. Alternatively, you can transfer your ticket to another person - please advise name of alternative person within 24 hours of class/event.


2) REFUND POLICY - GIFT VOUCHERS / CARDS

Gift vouchers / cards cannot be refunded and are vaild for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase.

All participants attending classes or events at Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd or organised by Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd agree to the following terms and conditions:

Once a course has begun there are no refunds or transfers.

We do not offer make-up classes due to our high volume of students. If you are unable to attend a class, please email sarah@sarahschembri.com

A minimum of six people is required to run a term course and one-day workshops. Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd reserves the right to cancel a class if the minimum number of bookings are not reached. You will be notified at least 5 days prior to the class if a cancellation is necessary, and a full refund will be provided.


Gift Cards / Vouchers

Gift cards / vouchers cannot be refunded and are valid for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase.


Student Responsibilities

Class work will take approximately 2-3 weeks to fire after a class finishes. Students will be notified by email when their work is ready for collection and have up to 2 weeks to collect their work. Uncollected work will be donated to a local charity.

Students are responsible to ensure that they do not have any prior medical illness or injuries that will be exacerbated by attending the selected class, and if unsure it is recommended for students to seek medical advice prior to attending any class.

Students are responsible for any physical injuries and for damage to personal property, which might incur whilst participating in a class or event.

Students are required to wear appropriate comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Covered shoes are essential.

Students are required to bring their own towel and apron to each class. This is especially important for wheel throwing courses and workshops. Tools and materials are provided.

Students agree to give Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at classes and arranged by Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd for marketing purposes.

Paid parking is available on Brunswick Street. There is angle parking located on Moor Street and St David Street.


Teachers

Sarah Schembri has over 20 years’ experience in the pottery industry with 11 years teaching experience.

Georgie Dixon has been a studio hand with Sarah for the past 4 years and teaches introductory level classes and one-off workshops.

Workshops are designed to cater to a variety of skill levels and most workshops are suitable for complete beginners to more experienced levels unless otherwise stated in the outline.

Sarah Schembri Ceramics Pty Ltd takes extreme care firing your work however accidents do happen from time to time. We are unable to guarantee that all your work will be successfully fired.
