Choose Your Own Adventure

Choose Your Own Adventure

Write a Mystery and Create Your Own Published Book

Live via Zoom

Have you ever wanted to write a mystery and create your very own book?

You've come to the right place!

'The Land of Imagination' is under attack. Soon all of your favourite fictional characters and their magical stories will be destroyed unless you can save the day! You (and your characters) need to find the portal into this magical world, unravel the mystery before it's too late!

This program is for you if you love:

  • Creating characters.
  • Solving mysteries.
  • Plotting action-packed stories.

You'll use an original set of Choose Your Own Adventure Cards I've designed to lead you through the storytelling process but you'll get to choose exactly how your story will unfold. I'll show you a simple structure to make planning your story easy and fun! And of course, our writing activities will inspire  and support you along the way from coming up with your idea to making your book!

This writing program shows young writers how to combine the building blocks of narrative writing:

  • style.
  • setting.
  • character.
  • plot.

to create a mystery story in a magical setting.

We will have a workshop each week and you'll have an easy writing guide to follow so you can stay on track.

At the end of the program, you'll have a story to share with your friends and family.

Participants will also be encouraged to create a book and enter in the Make Your Own Story Book Competition 2021. Entries close on 11th June.

Our live streamed workshops allow time for:

• Participation in a range of structured and unstructured writing activities.
• Developing narrative writing skills.
• Peer interaction and question time.
• Writing activities to inspire writers and scaffold the process of developing a mystery fantasy tale.

Program Outline:

Weeks 1 -2: Develop your story

In the first 2 workshops, we'll develop our setting, our mystery plot (problem) and our main character. If you  have trouble coming up with all the ideas for a story, then my Choose Your own Adventure Cards will come to the rescue. You get to pick and choose what elements you want to use and how your story will unfold. There will be plenty of time to write, share, plan and get your story sorted.

Weeks 3 - 7 Let's Get Writing

Once we have our stories sorted, I will introduce writing techniques and skills to bring your story to life. You will have a writing plan so you know exactly what you need to work on each week to get your story finished. We will explore how to start stories, build suspense, write action scenes and use imagery to ignite our readers' imagination.  I'll teach you some simple editing tricks of the trade that will immediately improve your writing and your story.

We will also look at publishing options and tips for creating your story book!
