Class Overview: Dive into the whimsical world of Yayoi Kusama, a visionary artist known for her iconic polka dots, vibrant colors, and playful forms. In this unique sculpture and mixed media art class, participants will explore the themes of flowers, mushrooms, and pumpkins, creating their own imaginative pieces inspired by Kusama’s enchanting style. 

What to Expect: Introduction to Yayoi Kusama: Start with an engaging presentation about Yayoi Kusama’s life, her artistic journey, and her signature motifs. Discover the significance of her work and how she uses forms and colors to express her creativity.

Materials & Techniques: Participants will be introduced to a variety of materials, including: Air-dry clay for sculpting, mixed media supplies such as paints, markers, paper for collage and decorative elements. Various tools for shaping and creating unique designs.

Guided Sculpture Creation: Under the instructor's guidance, you will create your own sculptures inspired by Kusama’s playful flowers, whimsical mushrooms, or iconic pumpkins. 

You’ll learn: 

- Basic sculpting techniques to mold and shape your chosen forms 

- How to apply color and patterns using paints, markers, or other mixed media 

- Ways to incorporate mixed materials for added depth and creativity 

Creative Expression: Emphasise personal interpretation by encouraging each participant to infuse their own style into their sculptures. Explore the use of bold colors, patterns, and textures to make your artwork truly unique.

Anna Kolusniewski, a seasoned costume and jewelry designer, founded "Aa is for Art" in Melbourne's inner west after a successful career in the fashion industry.
