About Maria Montes

I learned calligraphy for the first time in 1996. After a long break working as a full time Graphic Designer, I went back to study calligraphy, typography and type design in Barcelona and New York City.

All my lettering projects start with my own calligraphy as a base. Writing letters teaches me how to look at letterforms and understand its rhythm and contrast.

My work is generally intricate: typography and colour play an important role in my design approach. You can have a look at my website for several examples of my work and also read an extensive biography about my professional trajectory in the about section.
