About Alex Reteif
Alex fell in love with winemaking when he helped his parents plant a biodynamic vineyard just outside of Wagga Wagga in 1997. He immediately left his university course to sign up for a winemaking degree, which he finished in 2000. Since then, he has worked in the Hunter Valley, California's Sonoma Valley, France's Bordeaux and Languedoc regions and Spain's Rioja regions. He started his own label A.Retief in 2008, sourcing grapes from the Gundagai, Hilltops and Tumbarumba regions, which is on the wine lists of restaurants including Quay, Aria and Guillame. He was selected as one of 12 wine industry professionals in 2013 to take part in the prestigious Len Evans Scholarship Tutorial. He is considered one of NSW's more adventurous winemakers, with a focus on making sure each wine expresses the characteristics of each vineyard, region and year.
