Introduction to Brush Lettering

Description

In this workshop, Alena will teach you the key skills you need to be confident in pursing your passion in Hand Lettering. This course is for beginners, but anyone is welcome.

The course will begin with the warm up drills you need to practice before any lettering project. These drills introduce you to the pressures and strokes of the brush pen.

After the warm up round is over, we will move onto the alphabet – both upper and lowercase letter. Each letter will be deconstructed into strokes to help you understand how the letter is formed.

At the end of the class, you will be confident to write your own favourite quote!

You will leave the workshop with confidence, key skills of lettering & your own brush pens and worksheet!

Teacher Profile:

Alena is a Sydney-based graphic designer and a self taught Hand Letterer/Calligrapher. Her passion for anything hand written started from younger years, when back in Russia her mother taught her cursive writing. This passion grew stronger during her studies at University whilst she was studying Bachelor of Visual Communication.

Overwhelmed by how much the digital era is taking over, Alena picked up the brush pen, the nib pen and started learning the art of brush lettering & calligraphy. Now she is eager to pass this skill on to people who are eager to learn this art, as she believes that writing with our hands is a skill that should never be replaced by a font/typeface.

Loved that Alena started from the beginning and went through the drills so that we had good foundational skills before progressing to the actual lettering. The Christmas theme was also wonderful and it was lovely that we had the chance to practice lettering in time for the holiday season. Alena was very patient and obviously very passionate about brush lettering - also loved that she recommended a brush marker kit that was affordable as she clearly realises a big part about making sure people stick to a hobby is that the materials remain affordable. Highly recommended.
