Brush Lettering - A Crash Course In Composition

Description

Casey Schuurman is a big believer in beginning by hand. Her go-to design partner-in-crime is hand done lettering — it’s charming, expressive and instantly customises with handcrafted flair.

Brush Script Lettering is a versatile tool to have in your repertoire — different treatments create countless styles and endless applications! This workshop will assist in upgrading your lettering skills and use of composition to apply to your own creative practice and personal projects.

After refreshing on the basics, we will focus on the principles of creating a unique hand lettered piece (concept, composition, rhythm, balance and embellishment). The focus will then shift to learning how to work with different baselines, stroke widths, x-heights and bounce. For the finale, Casey will provide feedback on your work to help to complete your own custom brush lettered composition.

You’ll walk away with a custom brush lettering piece to continue working on at home, an improved knowledge of typography and fine-tuned hand lettering skills. These can be applied to anything from branding, signage, posters, custom stationery, personal projects and beyond. Think big!

This workshop is for those who have had a taste of brush lettering and want to level up their skills and work with composition. Prior experience welcome, but not necessary.
