Pounamu whales tooth Workshop
Description
Learn about the practices associated with Māori arts whilst creating a Pounamu Whales Tooth taonga in this 1-day workshop. Using traditional methods and also modern machinery participants will get to create a Rei Niho (Whales tooth) pendant.

There will also be a presentation about Neolithic carving techniques and Maori Purakau (myths and Legends)
Everything is provided on the day and the workshop is fully catered
What you will learn
- Participants will gain a skill set of using light hand tools safely
- Participants will learn braiding and lashing techniques
- Participants will gain insight into traditional Maori myths and legends also pre-European carving techniques

- Participants will gain a universal cultural experience
- Participants will learn how to finish and polish pounamu jewellery
- Participants will complete a Rei Niho (Contemporary whales tooth pendant)
