If you make it to only one event at this year’s Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, let it be this one
Can you believe it’s already March? Not that we mind because that can mean only one thing: The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is here! That’s two whole weeks of wine and food tastings, cooking classes, and more, at our city’s very own world-class gastronomic playground, now running on its 27th year.
Even better: If you’ve tried Australian Shiraz at least once before and promptly fell in love with it, strap in, because you’re in for a real treat. Oh and you’ll need to put on a blindfold for this one.
Armadale Cellars is hosting the biggest Shiraz Challenge you’ve ever seen, and you’re invited! In a 2.5-hour blind tasting, participants will try 12 premium brands flown in from in and out of Australia. Your mission: Pick the Grange from the collection. Tip: If you sense a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon, you’ve picked a winner!
A top wine pick, Shiraz has been a dinner favourite and one of the most widely planted vines for decades. But bold-flavoured Penfold’s Grange is something else altogether. Australia’s most collectible wine, it goes for $800 a pop! And totally worth it, too.
