Description
Baby it's Cold Outside! Interior Spaces with Jacqui Stockdale
Come and warm your creative soul in our studio with the fabulous Jacqui Stockdale this July
For centuries, artists have looked inward — to their homes, studios, and everyday surroundings — transforming intimate spaces into powerful visual narratives.
In this immersive full-day workshop, you’ll delve into the rich tradition of interior painting, uncovering its emotional and expressive potential. Guided by Jacqui, you’ll explore how light, shadow, texture, and personal objects can tell a story. Taking cues from artists like Pierre Bonnard’s sun-drenched rooms, James Ensor’s eerie domestic scenes, Mamma Andersson’s dreamlike compositions, and Noel McKenna’s quiet observations, you’ll learn how to translate the familiar into the poetic.
Work from a richly styled still life featuring plants, rugs, and furniture bathed in natural window light. Through a series of pencil, charcoal, and oil sketches, you’ll experiment with composition and technique before developing a final piece on a premium Stonehenge paper & aluminium composite panel — ready to take home and proudly display.
This workshop welcomes both beginners and experienced artists. It offers a relaxed yet creatively charged environment where you can deepen your skills and experiment freely.
Jacqui Stockdale is a celebrated contemporary artist, winner of the Doug Moran Prize, and an exhibitor at the Adelaide Biennale. She brings a wealth of teaching experience from the Victorian College of the Arts and her own school, ArtclassCo — along with a rare blend of insight, warmth, and generosity that makes every student feel at ease.

Your Teacher
Jacqui Stockdale is a Naarm/Melbourne-based contemporary artist celebrated for her exploration of Australian history, folklore, and marginalized narratives. Born in rural Victoria, her early countryside experiences deeply influence her artistic vision. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts in 1990, Stockdale’s career has flourished, with her works exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally.
Her multidisciplinary practice spans photography, drawing, painting, collage, and performance, characterized by theatrical and symbolic elements. Stockdale meticulously researches historical contexts, using archetypal characters, symbolism, and curated props, including live animals, to bring her narratives to life. This approach delves into Australian identity and history, focusing on female narratives and marginalized communities.
As an artist and teacher, Stockdale is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills. She has been running art classes for many years, helping students of all levels develop their artistic abilities. Her classes at CB One Gallery in Fitzroy offer a supportive environment where students can learn the fundamentals of oil painting, drawing, and mixed media, guided by her expert instruction.
