Your Teacher

Jacqui Stockdale is a Naarm/Melbourne-based contemporary artist celebrated for her exploration of Australian history, folklore, and marginalized narratives. Born in rural Victoria, her early countryside experiences deeply influence her artistic vision. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts in 1990, Stockdale’s career has flourished, with her works exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally.

Her multidisciplinary practice spans photography, drawing, painting, collage, and performance, characterized by theatrical and symbolic elements. Stockdale meticulously researches historical contexts, using archetypal characters, symbolism, and curated props, including live animals, to bring her narratives to life. This approach delves into Australian identity and history, focusing on female narratives and marginalized communities.

As an artist and teacher, Stockdale is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills. She has been running art classes for many years, helping students of all levels develop their artistic abilities. Her classes at CB One Gallery in Fitzroy offer a supportive environment where students can learn the fundamentals of oil painting, drawing, and mixed media, guided by her expert instruction.

I have been painting for many years alone at home and this Masterclass was exactly what I needed to feel confident again. There are few places in Melbourne where you can learn directly from professional artists who know how to pass on their skills. Jacqui Stockdale is laid back as well as motivating and gave us some great tips with the materials and the basic structure of a painting. I enjoyed meeting the other students and hope to sign up to more of the same.
