In this 2-hour introductory workshop, you will learn how to arrange flowers and foliage in a contemporary Japanese ikebana style. Azumi shares her knowledge of floral design using the simplicity and beauty of Japanese techniques. Each workshop involves a balance of demonstrations and hands-on design using locally sourced, seasonal materials.
What is ikebana
Ikebana is a style of Japanese floral art. Exploring the essentials of ikebana will help you create simple, contemporary and artistic arrangements and give you a new understanding of floral design.
Who is Azumi
Azumi is the founder of by Azumi, a floral design studio located in South Yarra. Azumi is a creative, experienced florist who has worked in Japan, Europe and Australia. She works with locally sourced, seasonal materials and favours sustainable floristry practices.
Workshop details
You will learn the basics of ikebana in a relaxed and inspiring space, providing you with the knowledge and skills to continue designing and making at home. Azumi will introduce you to the essentials of ikebana, and help you create your own natural work of art. Small groups allow you to share ideas and design at your own
pace. Come along and be inspired with this mediative and rewarding practice.

If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a transfer or credit note.
If you can't attend the class:
- A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$45.00 applies.
- A credit note can be requested 3 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$45.00 applies.
No changes will be allowed after these times.

If the organiser cancels the class: You are entitled to a full refund.
If you are unable to attend the class: We understand that plans may change. If you are unable to attend, we are happy to transfer your booking to an alternative date or issue a credit at no additional charge—provided we receive at least 7 working days' notice. This is because we prepare materials and reserve your place in advance.
Cancellations or transfer requests within 7 days of the class are subject to a 30% administrative fee (fee varies depending on the class).
The remaining tuition fee can be kept as a credit for future use.
Please note: Due to our small class sizes and limited availability, we do not offer refunds for cancellations or missed classes. Cancellations or no-shows within 24 hours of the class will be charged at 100%.
Age Requirements
Children under 14 are welcome, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their supervision throughout the session.
Attendance & Punctuality
We start our sessions on time, and early arrival is recommended.
Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time to allow for check-in and preparation.
To respect all participants, if you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we may refuse entry to the session. Refunds will not be provided in this case
Class Cancellations
- Classes are subject to sufficient enrolment numbers.
- We reserve the right to cancel any scheduled course.
