Carnival Faces: Oil Painting with Jacqui Stockdale
Join us at cbOne Studio in Abbotsford and immerse your creative spirit in a full-day studio experience with award-winning artist Jacqui Stockdale.
Jacqui is known for her fascination with carnival masks from around the world; symbols of identity, transformation, beauty, and revelation. Much of her art uses masks to “unleash inner worlds beyond ordinary daily life.”
In this one-day masterclass, you’ll explore this rich legacy as you bring your own expressive mask painting to life. Under Jacqui’s expert guidance, you’ll investigate how light, colour, form, and texture can turn the simple act of face-making into a vivid personal narrative. Drawing inspiration from Jacqui’s personal collection of masks, you’ll develop both technique and artistic voice.
Suitable for beginners through to experienced artists. Enjoy a relaxed, supportive environment where you can deepen your skills and experiment freely.

Jacqui Stockdale is a Naarm/Melbourne-based contemporary artist celebrated for her exploration of Australian history, folklore, and marginalized narratives. Born in rural Victoria, her early countryside experiences deeply influence her artistic vision. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts in 1990, Stockdale’s career has flourished, with her works exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally.
Her multidisciplinary practice spans photography, drawing, painting, collage, and performance, characterized by theatrical and symbolic elements. Stockdale meticulously researches historical contexts, using archetypal characters, symbolism, and curated props, including live animals, to bring her narratives to life. This approach delves into Australian identity and history, focusing on female narratives and marginalized communities.
As an artist and teacher, Stockdale is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills. She has been running art classes for many years, helping students of all levels develop their artistic abilities. Her classes at CB One Gallery in Fitzroy offer a supportive environment where students can learn the fundamentals of oil painting, drawing, and mixed media, guided by her expert instruction.
