Make a Silver Ring in a Day

Learn the magic of ring making with us at The Metal Space. This class is suited to absolute beginners where you will work under the guidance of an experienced jeweller.  Each student will make their own sterling silver ring from start to finish while learning the fundamentals of hand fabrication.

During the class each student will learn, marking out, saw piercing, forming, soldering, texturing & finishing. All skills will be practised & finessed on copper prior to starting our sterling silver ring. Each student has the opportunity to explore different finishes & techniques to take home a custom & personalised ring.

This class is a fun and immersive experience and is perfect to do solo, with friends, family or partner. It is a great introduction to test out jewellery making before signing up to a longer form class.

If students are interested in making a chunky, signet style or more detailed ring instead of a classic band we recommend taking our wax carving ring workshop.

Course Objectives:

Marking out - How to plan & accurately mark out metal to the correct size.

Saw piercing - Learn and master using the jewellers saw to precisely cut metal.

Forming - Understand different forming techniques which can be used to create rings.

Soldering & using torches - Learn how to safely use jewellers torches, what is annealing & master using a torch to solder metal together.

Texturing - Explore different textures; from hammered finishes, roller printing, burr textures, letter stamping & more.

Finishing - How to prepare your ring with emery paper correctly prior to finishing, polishing, satin finishes and even how to create dimension and depth in your finish using patination.

Troubleshooting & problem solving -Develop problem solving skills to address common challenges encountered during the ring making process.

By the completion of the course, participants will have learnt traditional jewellery fabrication techniques to create your own stunning sterling silver ring. This will create a foundation of basic skills to continue exploring the joy of making jewellery.

I attended the silver jewellery making workshop without any prior experience and not sure if I could actually create anything. The workshop is very well equipped and each step in the process is explained carefully with attention to safety. Within 3 enjoyable sessions I made two silver pendants and am very happy with the results. I will definitely return and I recommend giving it a go if you are at all curious.

I attended my first silver jewellery at this new studio and absolutely loved it. Our teacher Radka was very professional, clear, shown us how to use tools safely and so patient with me. The space is divine... even has a chillax area to eat, refresh and eat. And we make 2 pairs of earrings, one for me and 1 to gift :)
