In Aetheria Studio has a new workshop on offer, a more intimate experience than the classic water marbling on fabric workshop. Same mesmerising water marbling but with a large, beautiful, hand-marbled silk scarf as the focus of your end result!
You will learn how to make your very own printed silk scarf via the art of water marbling. Guided by your teacher, you'll learn the basics of water marbling, with an emphasis on developing your unique expression.
There is some time to practise in a smaller 70x70cm marble bath, with paper included if you wish! If you would like to also transfer onto fabric that size, this may be added on too.
This time is provided to familiarise yourself with the ink application and explore what colour palette you’d like to hone in on as well as what pattern you’d like to go with for your main piece.
Once you have had some practice you can then move on to creating the print for your 70x180cm silk chiffon scarf and applying the ink into a 70x200cm marble bath.
Due to the large size of the baths, spaces in this class are limited, with currently two baths available.
These can be booked in with a variety of options, which are as follows:
- One person to one bath
- Two people to one bath: This is a cost-effective option if you have a marbling buddy you wouldn’t mind sharing the experience with! Just select “add a marbling buddy” in the optional add-ons section for $100 for the second person - that's 60% off! You are then welcome to either marble the same scarf together or take turns and add another scarf which can also be found in the optional add-ons section.
- Four people to two baths: If you have a group of four and are happy to share, same instructions as above, just doubled! (2x guests, 2x add a marbling buddy’ add-ons)
- Two people to two baths: One bath each and a private session - a luxe experience indeed! Just book in as two guests.
Note: In Aetheria Studio is up a flight of 13 steps.
You will learn
- Learn the fundamentals of water marbling — from preparing the bath and applying inks to creating mesmerising, floating patterns on the surface.
- Experiment with colours, layering techniques, and different tools to develop your own unique marbling style. You’ll have time to practise on smaller pieces before creating your final design.
- Put your new skills into action by designing and marbling a large 70x180cm silk chiffon scarf to take home — a one-of-a-kind wearable artwork made by you.
You will get
- 70x180cm Silk Chiffon Scarf, hand-marbled with their own wonderful art! Permanently dyed, and washed fast (the scarves are mordanted in the studio beforehand, a process which enables the inks to fix to the silk).
- Paper to transfer practice art onto and keep (great for greeting cards etc).
- Aprons are provided, you are also welcome to bring your own if you prefer!
Appropriate for
The class is beginner-friendly; however, if you find transferring onto a large piece of silk daunting for your first time, you may prefer to book into our original water marbling workshop.
What to wear
Clothing you wouldn't mind getting ink on! (There is a bathroom onsite if you need to change).
Amanda is the creatrix behind the ever-evolving world In Aetheria Studio. An interactive offering showcasing her own unique spin on the art of water marbling finessed over years of experimentation. This is paired with her study of fashion design, being an alumnus of Bachelor of Fashion Design (honours) RMIT. Thus, at this stage, her products are being worked predominantly into clothing.
However, the only limit is one's imagination! She is flowing with ideas on how the marbling may be worked into a plethora of product /interior design and art pieces.
Thus, opening up her studio was the obvious direction! To be able to share this art with others, offer the nuanced way in which she applies it to fabrications, and inspire attendees of her workshop to develop their creations into their own unique outcomes.
Amanda has dedicated herself to sharing this practice, as she believes it is a perfect aid in reconnection to ones creative spark, whilst also being a meditative, healing experience, it is her way of spreading love and joy via creative expression into the world.

Amanda takes you into her approach to the art and facilitates the session whilst allowing ample time for exploration into how participants wish to approach their creation- there is no right or wrong way!
Thus, once the basics are relayed, there is freedom to play with the inks in the marbling bath which offers quite visually stimulating, video share worthy footage
The mesmerising way the inks morph and move provide quite a therapeutic nature to the whole experience.
This workshop is truly special in how participants are provided with the materials prepped beforehand via a mordanting process to enable the creation of their own wearable art on fabric, that is completely wash-fast after the ink dries, is rinsed, and then ironed to set permanently.

- A credit note can be requested 1 day before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$5.00 applies.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
