You’ll experiment with carving, stamping, layering, and mark-making to create surfaces that catch light, invite touch, and tell a story.

For makers who love to play, experiment, and push clay beyond the smooth and predictable. This hands-on masterclass is designed for students with some experience who want to explore texture as a creative language.

Sarah will demonstrate how she uses sodium silicate to create beautifully cracked, organic vessels 

What You’ll Do

• Experiment with a range of texture techniques and mark-making tools 
• Create forms on the wheel to explore surface possibilities
• Learn Sarah's approach to sodium silicate and its distinctive crackled effects
• Use the wheel to throw and alter forms, using textured ribs. 
• Shape, stretch, and manipulate vessels to enhance texture and movement
• You will leave with new skills, fresh ideas, and one-of-a-kind textured forms shaped through movement and exploration.

Duration: 4 hours

Experience: This is for students with some clay experience who are ready to experiment, take risks, and expand their surface techniques.

Bring: An apron and towel

Wear: Clothes that can get dirty – this class is hands on. Closed shoes are essential.

* A minimum of 6 people required for workshop to go ahead. Class will be cancelled and students transferred to new date if numbers not received.
