Outfit Out Loud: Customised Clothing Workshop

This hands-on upcycled fashion workshop invites LGBTQIA+ people aged 18+ to explore identity, self-expression and creativity through fashion.
The program will run at two venues for two separate participant groups – Woods Street Arts Space in Laverton and Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre in Altona – creating welcoming local spaces for connection, experimentation and creative expression. Every participant will also have the opportunity to be part of a four-week Re-Wear exhibition at Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre across January and February showcasing the finished garments.
Transform denim jackets and pre-loved garments into bold, one-of-a-kind wearable artworks using sewing machines, fabric paints, stencils, airbrushing, patches, transfers, studs, trims, jewels, recycled materials and more.
Learn basic sewing and alteration skills, experiment with deconstruction and reconstruction, or push your design into haute couture and avant-garde territory. Clothing becomes a canvas for celebrating individuality, queer identity and personal style while giving discarded garments a new life.
Clothing for the workshops has been kindly donated by Green Collect, giving quality pre-loved garments a new life while encouraging sustainable alternatives to fast fashion.
Come along, meet other LGBTQIA+ creatives and create in a welcoming, inclusive and supportive space.
No experience necessary – beginners welcome. Strictly 18+. All materials provided.

You will learn
- Basic sewing and alteration skills.

- 4 x 4 hour making sessions with all materils provided.

196 reviewsAnna Kolusniewski, a seasoned costume and jewelry designer, founded "Aa is for Art" in Melbourne's inner west after a successful career in the fashion industry. She now leads term-based visual arts programs for children and workshops for adults, while also teaching at various institutions throughout Melbourne.
Anna has collaborated with numerous nonprofit and government-funded organizations to deliver impactful art therapy programs. Recognized as one of Australia’s foremost costume jewelry designers, Anna specializes in theatrical and period styles. Her award-winning work has been featured in a variety of bridal and fashion publications, showcased at Fashion Week, and highlighted in film and theater productions. Additionally, Anna has contributed to many group exhibitions, further establishing her presence in the art community.
She believes everyone has the ability to be creative and with positive encouragement can produce beautiful artwork. She also believes creativity has a calming effect on children and builds confidence through a sense of achievement, she loves inspiring children to push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of to send them to next level.
