YVA is establishing a weekly life drawing group beginning on September 24th at Healesville Living and Learning Centre in the Wellbeing Room at 6.30pm. Members and non-members welcome. There will be a weekly fee to cover the cost of the model and room hire.

You will learn
- You'll build genuine life drawing skills the way artists always have, by doing it, regularly, with others. Expect to sharpen your observation, loosen up your line, and get more confident capturing the human form in both quick gestural poses and longer studies. There's no tutor telling you what to do; instead you learn through focused practice, watching how others work, and the steady progress that only comes from turning up and drawing.
You will get
- You'll also get a dedicated, distraction-free space to draw from a live model, and the encouragement of a warm, like-minded group to keep you coming back and you can take your work with you.
Appropriate for
Adults of all levels, from complete beginners to those wanting regular practice to keep improving. No experience and no prerequisite classes needed. If you're curious about life drawing and keen to learn in a relaxed group setting, this is for you.
Preparation
What to bring
- Nothing essential as easels, paper and charcoal are all supplied. If you have a favourite sketchbook or preferred drawing materials you like to work with, feel free to bring them along.
What to wear
There is no dress code, just wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting a little charcoal on.

These classes are not tutored however one of our acclaimed artists Ben Winspear will be overseeing the sessions which always attract a range of experience amongst attendees.

If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

- A refund can be requested 2 days before class starts. Free of charge.
- A transfer can be requested 1 day before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.

Terms & Conditions
Bookings and payment Your place is confirmed once payment is received. The member rate ($25) is available to current Yarra Valley Arts members only — if you book at the member rate without a current membership, we'll ask you to pay the difference before the session.
Cancellations and refunds If you can't make it, please let us know at least 48 hours before the session and we'll offer you a transfer to a future session or a full refund. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice, or no-shows, are non-refundable, as your place has been held and materials prepared. Bookings are transferable to another person, just let us know the name.
If we need to cancel Sessions run subject to minimum numbers. If we have to cancel or reschedule a session for any reason, you'll be offered a transfer to another date or a full refund.
About the session This is a self-directed, untutored life drawing session. A model and all materials (easel, paper and charcoal) are provided, and discussion is encouraged but no formal instruction is given. Sessions are for participants aged 18 and over.
The model and studio etiquette Our sessions work from a live model. We ask all participants to be respectful and professional at all times. No photography, filming or recording of the model or other participants is permitted. Anyone behaving inappropriately will be asked to leave without refund.
Health, safety and your own wellbeing Please arrive on time and follow any directions from Yarra Valley Arts staff or volunteers. You take part in the session at your own risk. To the extent permitted by law, Yarra Valley Arts Council Inc. is not liable for any loss, injury or damage to personal property arising from your attendance, except where caused by our negligence.
Privacy Any personal information you provide when booking is used only to manage your booking and to keep you informed about Yarra Valley Arts activities, in line with our privacy policy. You can opt out of communications at any time.
