Join us in Northcote and paint with our lovely guest artist, Cristina of Broomstick and Brush Studio, for a watercolour class on botanical illustration. This is a painting class for beginners. Bookings are open this week in Northcote! Melbourne's Paint With Me is pleased to present a watercolour class for adults. This art class is designed for absolute beginners.
(Please note that this workshop requires at least two bookings in a session to run.)
Step into the botanical world of illustrating with watercolour paint as you follow along with Cristina as she demonstrates techniques for painting florals and charming forest mushrooms.
In this three-hour class, youâll be instructed through the essentials of watercolour painting to ensure you can paint perfect petals every time. Guests will learn how to understand water control, pigmentation, paper type, and temperature to successfully mix custom colour without creating muddy meadows.
If you haven't painted before, or already have your fave brush and want to refine your technique, Cristina will take over the Paint With Me Northcote studio and invites guests in to create luminous, soft, and delicate botanical watercolour paintings in our inspiring Inner North artist space.
What to Expect:
Youâll begin with simple warm-up exercises to explore
- Wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques
- Controlling pigment strength
- Creating smooth gradients and soft blends
- Understanding light and shadow when painting in watercolour
Once you feel comfortable with the basics, youâll move into guided studies of a floral form and a forest mushroom. Youâll learn how to:
- Paint soft, dimensional petals
- Create natural-looking leaves with subtle tonal shifts
- Add texture and depth to mushroom caps
- Use negative space to keep your work light and fresh
For the three-hour class, you will learn to paint a
- Poppy
- Lavender
- King Mushroom
- Toadstool
And if thereâs time, you will paint a
- Rose
- Ink Cap Mushroom
In the final portion of the class, youâll combine your skills into a small finished composition â a beautiful botanical piece you can frame or gift.
Please note that this workshop requires at least two bookings in a session to run.

About Paint With Me Melbourne
Our whole studio is made up of local artists that teach affordable, high quality, and most of all fun art workshops 7 days a week.
In 2026, alongside being given the title "The Anchor of Melbourne's Inner North", we were celebrated for the largest provided class and workshop schedule - in the entire country!
Paint With Me took the cake as the top winner of awards here in Melbourne out of any workshop businesses across Australia. We ranked #1 in art lessons, painting and drawing, and craft in WeTeachMe's 2026 Curated editorial guides, with the title of "Experts in" and "Top Studio To Follow".
Not only that, Eloise Nouvelle was featured in their publication "12 Women on WeTeachMe Who Inspire and Inform" which you can read here. In 2025 we were awarded as a "KidsBook Outstanding Provider" for our, well, outstanding art classes! In 2026, we've committed to keeping our studio accessible and affordable for all; with heavily discounting weekly paint and sip and kids classes, opening extra days in the studio, and donating completely subsidised arts education to schools in Melbourne (not just the inner north!), and have made all of our art and craft workshops 100% NDIS accessible with 3 ways to book, helping more people enter spaces to create without limitation; whether that be physical, social, or financial.
In 2027 we plan to do more of our excellent work in our community, with partnerships across Melbourne's deeply important helpers in education, council, community space, and social enterprises.
Follow us for our updates as we continue letting Melbourne be as creative as possible, no matter what!
