The Clay Talk Ceramics Centre in Montsalvat is a ceramics facility located in the grounds of Montsalvat – Australia’s oldest continuously active artists’ community. The studio is an addition to Montsalvat’s already rich history as a place where art is made, taught, shown and experienced.

At Clay Talk, we aim to be a creative environment that brings students and practitioners together through education and skills-based programs. Currently we offer classes where you can learn wheel throwing and hand building at all stages of development supplemented by specialist programs and workshops taught by established artists.

My daughter and her friends had the most AMAZING time!!! They were all really excited to try throwing on the wheel, and a couple then chose to give handbuilding a go as well. Their tutor Nicole was just so calm and nurturing with them, encouraging them all to just go with what felt right and gave them space to explore their creativity. We’ve now got quite a few nine year olds begging Santa for pottery lessons!!!!

The location and space is fantastic. The teacher managed to entertain 8 party kids ranging in age from 12 to 8. My kids were all excited to have a try of the pottery wheel. I left the kids with the teacher and collected them after the 2 hours. The children said they were told they couldn't go on the wheel and were handbuilding only. They did get to complete 3 pieces that will be able to be collected soon to keep but were disappointed the wheel was not given as an option. I would recommend the party to others but make sure you prearrange what you'd like your kids party to be - handbuilding versus wheel to manage expectations.
