Description

The Guild brings together people who practice the arts of hand weaving, spinning and associated crafts and fosters and encourages the crafts by instruction, discussion and exhibition.

Joining the Guild has many benefits. And people joining from 1 October get the balance of the year, plus the full following year for the same price as a year’s membership.  It also allows you to access classes at membership rates. Download a membership application now.

Meetings take place in the Church Hall behind St Paul’s Anglican Church, 205 Burwood Road, Burwood (Sydney)  usually on the last Saturday of each month (except December) starting at 2pm. Usually, an interesting talk on a fibre-related subject is followed by a brief business meeting and afternoon tea. Come at 1pm for the mini-workshop or market and a bit of socialising.

The Guild Rooms are open before the Saturday meetings from 10am. They are also open each Thursday from 12noon to 4pm.

The Guild Rooms are located above the church hall behind St Paul’s Church. On Thursday afternoons and meeting Saturdays, you can browse in the library, members may borrow books, equipment and buy a limited selection of yarns, fibres and equipment at very reasonable prices from the Guild Shop. Visitors are always welcome.

We have many looms, spinning wheels, braiding stands and associated equipment for hire by members. Included are tools like blockers, warping mills and drum carders that you like to use occasionally but don’t have storage space for at home. This equipment is often useful for those doing workshops or classes in the Guild rooms.

The library has an extensive selection of books, magazines and DVDs that cover weaving, spinning, design, knitting, crochet, felting, basketry, dyeing, and various other fibre arts and crafts. Only members may take items from the rooms.

There are several Guild groups that meet every month or two to share ideas and learn new techniques in the Guild rooms. The Braids, Weaving, Exploring Felt, and Spinning Study Groups all welcome new members. Phone or e-mail the Guild rooms to find out when the next get-together will be or go to our calendar.

Classes and workshops run throughout the year with details of upcoming courses available for enrolment listed here. There are also numerous courses and workshops held during our Summer and Winter schools.

The Guild News is our monthly newsletter, which keeps members abreast of the business and activities of the Guild, its members and includes a comprehensive list of fibre related happenings in the area.

If anyone wishes to advertise in the Guild News, the following scale of charges apply (Members / Non-Members):

Full Page (19 x 27 cm) $100 / $150
1/2 Page (19 x 13.5 cm) $50 / $75

This was a great course. Leant a lot and it was fun. Wendy really knows her stuff!

10 August 2019 • WS19:1 Introduction to Weaving

This is a wonderful introduction to hand loom weaving. We covered so much in the three days and built knowledge and competency to do our own project. The teacher, Andrew, is thorough and patient. I highly recommend this course.

10 August 2019 • WS19:1 Introduction to Weaving

A fully comprehensive course, for the uninitiated. At the end of the 3 days, I had enough knowledge and confidence to be able to calculate materials, read patterns and warp my loom. I left with a significant amount of weaving on my loom that I was suitably impressed with. Andrew is an excellent instructor, who is patient and generous with his time and skills. I can thoroughly recommend this 3 day course.
