Description

The Guild brings together people who practise the arts of hand weaving, spinning and associated crafts and fosters and encourages the crafts by instruction, discussion and exhibition.

Joining the Guild has many benefits. And people joining from 1 October get the balance of the year, plus the full following year for the same price as a year’s membership.  It also allows you to access classes at membership rates. Download a membership application now.

There are Meetings on the last Saturday of the month where we get together for spinning or other crafts. The Guild Rooms are open before the Saturday meetings from 10 am. They are also open each Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm.

The Guild Rooms are located above the church hall behind St Paul’s Church. On Thursday afternoons and meeting Saturdays, you can browse in the library, members may borrow books, equipment and visit the Fiber Shop for unique fibre and yarns for weaving, spinning, felting or knitting at excellent prices. Often we have preloved equipment to get you started in your journey at reasonable prices.  Visitors are always welcome.

We have many looms, spinning wheels, braiding stands and associated equipment for hire by members. Included are tools like blockers, warping mills and drum carders that you like to use occasionally but don’t have storage space for at home. This equipment is often useful for those doing workshops or classes in the Guild rooms.

The library has an extensive selection of books, magazines and DVDs that cover weaving, spinning, design, knitting, crochet, felting, basketry, dyeing, and various other fibre arts and crafts. Only members may take items from the rooms.

There are several Guild groups that meet every month or two to share ideas and learn new techniques in the Guild rooms. The Braids, Weaving, Exploring Felt, and Sunday Social Spinners who meet on the 3rd Saturday of the month in the gild rooms from 10.30 am - 3.30 pm;  all welcome new members.

Classes and workshops run throughout the year with details of upcoming courses available for enrolment listed here. There are also numerous courses and workshops held during our Summer and Winter schools.

We often receive requests for the address of fibre groups around Australia. As a service we share this information that we have developed over the years and attempt to keep updated.

Membership rates are for one calendar year starting 1 January and ending 31 December. New members joining from 1 October receive the balance of the current year for free when purchasing next year’s membership.

Fantastic workshop. Covered a large range of plants & various mordants to dye yarn with. Relaxed friendly atmosphere as well as efficiently prepared & setup. I really enjoyed the day & learned lots & came home with an inspiring range of samples & notes to proceed with my own experimenting.

It was a joy to be taught by Liz Calnan again. With all the restrictions etc of the past year the use of IT technology makes learning so easy. Thank you. Raga Brown

Really enjoyed doing this course and looking at the possibilities and variations available with the one threading. Have not used this type of weave before. Zoom course worked well with notes and details sent prior, to allow for threading to be done. Group was small and attention given to all participants. Good opportunities to ask queries and get help, with theory sections followed by weaving and views of what we were all producing. Feedback given as we went. Full day course was nice in order to focus on what we were doing. Really good to have the sample at the end with a lot of options for trying things in the future.. Thanks!
