Description

In today's market illustrators earn their livings through all sorts of creative and interesting avenues, not just editorial and advertising illustration. An illustrator has to wear many hats, forge and follow their own creative paths. Yet despite the challenges of an ever-changing industry, the possibilities for an illustrator are open and endless.

The Draw Your Own Story seminar is designed to address these possibilities, providing a platform for both industry figures and established IA members to discuss how to draw your own career path in the illustration industry. Draw Your Own Story will also see the release and discussion of the 2017 Illustrators Australia pricing survey, and feature hands on product demonstrations from Winsor & Newton and Procreate.

9 x 5 Presentations

Draw Your Own Story will kick off with short talks by Illustrators Australia members who have experience and success in areas of practice outside of the traditional publishing and advertising routes, including:

Matthew Magain on graphic recording and scribing,

Nicky Johnston of the KidLitVic conference,

Daniel Atkinson on character puppet animation and illustration,

Emily Wills of Surface 1°22,

Justine McAllister on mural painting.

Industry Panel Discussion

Next we'll be facilitating an interesting and in-depth discussion of the possibilities in todays illustration market with a diverse panel of creatives and industry figureheads, including;

Sally Brownbill of The Brownbill Effect (Creative Directory & Placement Hub),

Julie Klewer, design development manager at Simson Cards,

Lili Nishiyama, campaign advisor at Pozible,

Laura Main, new owner of Signed and Numbered,

Mark Sheard, animation director of Viskatoons.
