Reinvent and Refurbish Your Clothes
In response to the appalling fires in Victoria and throughout Australia I will be donating 50% of workshop fees to Wildlife Victoria to assist in the care of wildlife harmed and displaced. Visit the Wildlife Victoria website for more information on what they do or to make a donation.
This workshop is designed to address the 6,000 kilograms of used but still wearable clothing that goes into Australian landfill every 10 minutes. By getting you to hold on to your clothes for at least 9 months longer reduces the water, waste and carbon footprint by up to 30%. Refurbishing the clothes your already own enables you to express creativity and individuality whilst reducing your impact on the environment!
We will be using various forms of fabric paints and stencils to create your own individual design in the morning. We will then have a break for lunch to allow the paint to dry. Then we will continue in the afternoon to embellish your clothes. You will be able to choose to use embroidery, sequins, buttons and other embellishments.
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced stitchers and is running as part of the National Sustainable Living Festival 2020.
Paints, brushes, embellishments, threads and other materials will be provided.

Karhina Designs – Original Sustainable Textile Art and Creative Craft Workshops to learn new skills and inspire you to create.
I specialise in mending, hand stitching and free machine embroidery using the needle as my paint brush and am always exploring new possibilities and ideas. I create unique and distinctive designs in wall art, handbags and jewellery.
I offer Creative Workshops in Melbourne or further afield when invited. The workshops include visible mending, clothing reconstruction, hand embroidery, machine embroidery and creative sewing. I will teach you new skills and give you ideas inspiring you to create more. The workshops offer a fantastic creative experience, are value for money and lots of fun.
I have been making my clothes and mending since a teenager as I love to personalise my wardrobe through embellishment and visible mending. We all know that fast fashion is not sustainable so we need to love the clothes we already own and work harder to make them last. By mending our clothes we create a bond with them ensuring we wear them longer. I am happy to accept commissions to mend your old favourites. Feel free to get in touch with me to discuss your individual piece.
The majority of my products are made incorporating up cycled, recycled or reclaimed materials. Wherever possible additional materials are 100 percent natural, produced sustainably and sourced locally.

If you are unable to attend your workshop, please let us know 4 days or more before your workshop and we will give you a credit note to be used at a later date, or transfers are available upon request. No credit notes will be issued for cancellations when less than 4 working days' notice is given but we are happy for you to earn some extra karma points and give your ticket to one of your friends.

All other deposits and class payments are non-refundable but will be held and transferred to another class of your choice (assuming there is a vacancy) for a term of 12 months from date of payment.
