Description

Learn jewellery making and become an accomplished artisan at our Jewellery Making Atelier. This is a unique opportunity to spend one day a week working with Melanie Ihnen, a skilled and caring educator who is also a talented jeweller with her own practice. She will assist you in creating unique pieces no matter what level you are at.

The Jewellery Making Atelier is an exciting course for students just starting their jewellery making adventure or those at an intermediate level or above. Offering a broad range of subjects and techniques, participants are encouraged to produce – through the process of design and making – jewellery pieces that are individual in design and well made.

Come and enjoy the camaraderie of making with like-minded people on a Thursday.

What makes SquarePeg Studios unique for learning jewellery making?  Our jewellery school is also a workshop with 14 contemporary jewellers in residence so students have the opportunity to interact with professional makers and see the types of jewellery they are making.

just now NEW I did the 7 week jewellery atelier class as a beginner and LOVED IT. The class was informative and gave us room to design and create our own pieces from very early on which was a challenge but a very welcome one. We made rings, an independent project to practice “riveting”, and learned bezel stone setting. Our teacher, Mel, was enthusiastic, informative, dedicated and lovely. I’d only suggest she have more support teaching as there were so many in the class all at varying stages of learning which left some long wait times between steps (at no fault of her own at all). We were usually able to fill this time productively but I’d love to see another teacher in the class or smaller class numbers. Overall a fantastic class. A reminder that after the first few lessons, you have to pay for your own materials. They can be purchased from class or at jewellery suppliers locally. All tools are supplied and are plentiful and great fun!

Hello Laura, Thankyou for taking the time to share your lovely feedback. We wanted to respond in regard to you experiencing wait times on occasion during your class. Typically our Jewellery Making Atelier is exclusively for more advanced students. We made an exception and opened the class up to Beginner students in the term you participated in due to a strong interest to enrol from a few Beginner students and we wanted to give them the opportunity to take part.  We are sorry to hear that this left wait times longer than usual on occasion, but want to highlight that this is not typically the experience of our students. So you know, our dedicated Beginner evening class is capped at a smaller class size of 8 students as Beginners do naturally require more assistance in each step of their making than our more experienced students.  We are delighted to see that you still awarded us a 5-star rating -we really appreciate it! Thanks for joining us & take care. Warmest regards from us at SPS. x
