Beginners Wax Carving and Finishing Course-Part 1
(Private Dates Available)
Description
Please note: I have been overseas this year and will resume teaching this class from Oct 14th 2024, please request any private one on one dates between then and Dec 16th 2024. Teaching resumes in 2025 from the beginning of Feb.
Using the ancient method of lost wax casting, in this two part class course you will learn to carve wax rings, embellish them and have them cast as well as master finishing and polishing techniques. The aim of this course is for you to come away with at least one finished ring, and either a finished second ring or one that you can finish at home.
For the two classes, everyone will make the same style ring. This is to make sure you all pick up the same skills and finish one piece off at least.
From there you can book onto part two of this course-please see our listings and you will concentrate on your own designs and creations Using all available waxes. The first section will help you with inspiration for the second as you start to get a feel and idea of what can be done with wax. This class uses a variety of differvent waxes and moves you on from just hard wax carving.
Unlike other classes who will finish your work off for you - you will learn these valuable skills here yourself so that you can repeat the process at home.
Eran Naylor jewellery will provide all materials needed, as well as list of where you can purchase this equipment for home use. We will take your pieces to an external casting house for you, and encourage you to try to take your second piece to see how it works and build relationships (though we can take it for you). You will need to pay for all castings plus GST. We only cast in sterling silver on this course to keep your costs down.
How does our course differ from others:
On our courses we teach and guide you to do all of your own work as we want you to get value from your course. We do not finish off your work for you. We are confident that you can leave our course and be able to fully repeat what you have learnt at home with minimal equipment and as your teacher currently works full time in the industry we are always available for future help and guidance with good advice or are able to point you in the right direction of where to find it.
This course can hold up to ten students which will mean that you get enough personal attention from the teacher. You need to be over sixteen (16) to attend this class, have good eyesight, or bring glasses with you and have fairly steady hands. You need to have hair tied back, wear sensible clothing and bring an apron as you may get covered in a fair amount of wax shavings. You do not need to have any previous jewellery making experience - this course is suitable for complete beginners.
This course is taught by Eran Naylor of Eran Naylor Jewellery and her teaching style is to give as much help and guidance, individual and group as possible. We like you to be able to get value for money and encourage you to own your work and skills so that you can ahead in this industry. She teaches with a positive attitude and can help you succeed either as a hobbyist or starting a new business. If you are not sure if this course if for you it may help you to check out our great feedback and see what others have to say about our courses.

We also run a school of craft, where we invite exciting and innovative teachers to come in and teach classes so that you can learn new skills from them. These are run in one of our two beautiful spaces in and around our shop and studio.
