Description

In our 12 hour short course, students will learn how to take a garment that you love and create a pattern from it (without having to unpick your garment!).

Over the first half of the course we teach you how to draft a pattern from your garment and in the second half you will make a toile of that garment and check the pattern drafting.

You could be making many versions of your favourite wardrobe item in all different colours!  You'll have your pattern for ever.

You can expect to finish 1 pattern and 1 toile (mock-up) in the course timeframe.

Be easy on yourself for your first project and choose a simple garment. Not too many seams or details in the construction.

11 December 2019 • Learn to Copy a Garment You Love ✄✄✄

The instruction in the first class provided a good overview about drafting a pattern from my chosen dress. However, despite spending a lot of time at home during the week between lessons tracing off the pattern and constructing a toile (which worked well despite some fit issues), the assistance and instruction on how to make modifications to perfect the fit was limited and unsatisfactory. After raising my concerns and disappointment with Thread Den, a suitable outcome was not reached.

A good intro course providing an overview of skills for copying. You have to work very fast through the two days to do the draft pattern, intermediate pattern, toile, fitting and then amendments to your basic pattern. Homework is definitely required if you want to get through this whole process.
