Description

Skirt patterns is the ideal garment to start your drafting with.  Thread Den's pattern drafting program is designed to enable you to be creating and producing garments designed by you. Learning to pattern draft will open up a world of unique style and creativity that you will have for a lifetime.

Our program is made up of 3 individual courses:

  1. The Skirt - August 2019
  2. The Bodice- in 2020
  3. The Torso - in 2020

(Bodice designs stop like a shirt, Torso drafting includes full garments like dresses and jumpsuits).

Delivered and designed by My Best Friend Jen, our workshops are designed for modern students who want to develop a creative passion. Our pattern drafting program is ideal for individuals who have been sewing from commercial sewing patterns, understand the pattern markings and have a grasp on sewing terminology.

The workshop schedule for each includes pattern drafting lessons, not sewing sessions. To make the most of your course, you want to allow for time to make toiles of your drafted patterns.

Over fortnightly course of the six workshops course students will:

  • Draft and fit a skirt block to your own measurements
  • Cover styles including: A Line, Pencil, Circle Skirts
  • Design gathers and wraps
  • Learn about darts and princess seams
  • Draft splits, pleats, gores
  • Enhance designs with different pockets, zips, other closures, waistbands, facings and more

We utilise a number of techniques; working on calico, pattern paper, cardboard, full size and in third size scale. You will build up a reference tool that you will have for a lifetime of pattern drafting.

20 February 2018 • Pattern Drafting Course - Skirt Designs

Well taught and well paced workshop that teaches the skills to draft any sort of skirt to my own measurements. Starts with creation of my own skirt block from which all skirts are drafted. Also included in the class was how to fit a skirt block toile.

03 March 2016 • Pattern Drafting Course - Skirt Designs

This class is exactly what it says - intensive! I enjoyed creating my own skirt patterns from my own personal skirt block. Having attended other pattern drafting courses with Amy M, I was able to bring some of my earlier skills to this class, including being able to make a pattern from an existing skirt from my wardrobe (Copy a Garment you Love). I love how the courses at Thread Den create a knowledge and skill base that can be used in other courses at Thread Den. This course is as easy or as challenging as you want it to be, depending on the complexity of the skirt patterns you want to make. It was extremely well taught.
