QUILT COAT WORKSHOP
Join Lorena Uriarte, renewed Modern Quilter, to learn how to sew a Quilted Jacket. Bring a Quilt and leave with a Coat!
It's never been more on trend to sport a Quilted Coat so lets go for it! Drag the Quilt off the bed or out of the cupboard and make it wearable. Or is this a good excuse to make another quilt. Oh yes indeedy!
Just look at those fabulous coats Lorena has made. Not only will you be on trend but you will learn valuable lessons in working with heavy fabric and constructing a coat. Perfect!
This class is held over two Saturdays.
Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced. Must be confident to use patterns and your sewing machine. Quilt must be quilted before the class.
Patterns we suggest: Hovea Coat by Megan Nielsen, Wildwood Jacket by Helen's Closet, Tamarack Jacket by Grainline, Chore Coat by Patchwork & Poodles
What you will learn:
- Cutting of pre-made quilts
- Bias Binding application to seams
- Working with heavy fabric
- Construction of a coat
Workshop – Day 1:
- We check pattern pieces, decide on collar/ hood/ pocket options, lay out quilt.
- Cut pieces from Quilt. Sew front and back at shoulder seam.
- Bind the shoulder seam.
- Make binding
- Bind collar piece/ pockets etc
Workshop – Day 2:
- Sew coat together
- Pockets
- Decisions re buttons/ stud closures
- Lots of binding
- ** Please note the while we endeavour and aim to have you leave with a completed coat, there may be a possibility of some final stitching when you get home. This all depends on the thickness of your coat, the simplicity of the design and your sewing confidence

What you need to bring
- See FULL requirements listing sent once class is bookedA
- quilt - pre made or simply quilted but no binding.
- Your pattern - traced to your size
- Your trusty sewing machine
- Walking foot for your machine if you have one
- Heavy Jeans or size 90-100 needles
- Your glasses, if you need them
- Your lunch - microwave, sandwich press and fridge available. Or trot up to a local cafe!

Day one: Saturday 28 October 9am to 430pm AND Day two: Saturday 4 November, 9am to 430pm

PARKING
During the week, parking can be tricky. It is often best to stop at our door and bring your machine in and then find a park.
During the weekend, there is usually lots of parking on Jabez Street or Shepherd Street.
BUS
We are serviced by the M30, 423, 426 and 428 bus.
TRAIN
We are approx 20min walk from Sydenham or Stanmore Station

Cancellations & Refunds
If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
- A refund can be requested 5 days before class starts. Free of charge.
- A transfer can be requested 5 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$25.00 applies.
- A credit note can be requested 5 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
Terms & Conditions
Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Usefulbox Sewing School or organised by Usefulbox Sewing School must agree to these terms and conditions.
1.) LIABILITY WAIVER
I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by Usefulbox Sewing School
2.) PHOTO & VIDEO
I agree to give Usefulbox Sewing School unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Usefulbox Sewing School classes and events or on Usefulbox Sewing School premises. (For use of Usefulbox Sewing School marketing materials).
