Frequently Asked Questions

  • We offer several options for beginners with no sewing experience. The Sewing Basics 3 Week Course provides nine hours of hands-on tuition where you'll make a new project each week, learning machine setup, essential techniques, and how to fix common issues. For those preferring weekly classes, the Beginner & Beyond Learn to Sew Course runs for 5 or 10 weeks and includes small groups with personalized guidance. Both courses introduce terminology, tools, patterns, fabric anatomy, and cutting techniques. The Beginner & Beyond course offers a $50 discount when booking the full term.

  • Yes, most classes provide materials and tools. In private lessons ($199 for 3 hours), all tools are set up for you including fabric shears, pinking shears, thread snips, unpicker, hand needles, tape measures, pins, tailor's chalks, hem guides, and ironing/pressing tools. For group workshops like the Cushion Workshop and Knitting Machine Basics, supplies are included in the booking. For garment courses like the PJs or Simple Shift Dress, you typically bring your own fabric, though the studio provides all sewing equipment and specialist tools needed.

  • We offer a 10% discount that applies in three situations: multiple workshop bookings for one student, bookings between siblings within the same school holiday period, and bookings with friends on the same workshop. Use code MULTIPLE10 at final checkout. Additionally, the Beginner & Beyond Learn to Sew Course offers a $50 discount when you book the full term instead of individual weeks.

  • Yes. Private sewing lessons are $199 for 3 hours and are fully customized to your needs, whether you're a beginner or working to master a specific technique. To organize a lesson, email info@ThreadDen.com with details of what you want to learn or your project specifics, plus your available days and times. We provide all necessary tools and equipment. Note that weekends are busier and have longer wait times. We also offer All Ages Private Sewing Lessons with flexible durations (1.5-2 hours) for kids 7+, teens, and adults.

  • For most group workshops and courses, tools are provided. For garment-making courses (like the PJs, Simple Shift Dress, or Wide Leg Pants courses), you'll need to bring your own fabric and notions (elastic, thread, zips, etc.) as specified in the course details. For freestyle sewing sessions, bring your own project and fabric—the studio provides the sewing machine, overlocker, steam generator iron, shears, cutting tools, and access to cutting tables. It's best to check the specific course details when booking, as material requirements vary.

  • Yes, we offer specialized masterclasses. The Zips & Buttonholes Masterclass covers both lapped and invisible zips in the morning, and buttonholes, button placement, and machine button-sewing in the afternoon (with a bonus pouch project if time permits). For stretch fabrics, the Master Stretch: Complete Knits Sewing Course teaches knit and stretch fabric techniques over 6 hours, including appropriate needles, stretch stitches, and finishing with a handmade t-shirt. We also offer the Serge Ahead: Overlocker Confidence Workshop (2.5 hours) for those intimidated by their overlocker, and the Cushion Workshop teaches overlocker use and invisible zip insertion over 3 hours.
