Help wanted! Australia’s top ateliers need qualified jewellery makers
Avalon-based jewellery maker Natalie Marie made major waves last year, when longtime client Meghan Markle started showing off select pieces on “Suits” and on her social feed. Followers of Rachel Zane’s sleek fashion style went wild.

Meghan ✨ One of our favorite clients from way before she was on her path to royalty. Meghan originally ordered some pieces to wear on Suits a few years ago and started her collection. We’ve not spoken with Meghan in a long time but we are so happy that she’s still enjoying her pieces. A true delight to work with; sweet, kind, authentic and so generous with her support and kind words. She is a true beauty inside and out and we are so proud to have had the opportunity to work with her and so happy to have watched her find love and start this new fairytail journey. We’ve had lots of enquiries about Meghan’s pieces so have tagged them in this post. ✨ (Oh and we are not making her wedding rings 😊).
But despite her success, Natalie Marie laments that jewellery making is in danger of becoming a dying craft. Many artists’ ateliers have been in sore need of top talent, ever since jewellery creators became more inclined to launch their own brands, without going through the traditional route of starting out first as an apprentice to a master jeweller.
Apprenticeships are a tried-and-tested way for new jewellery makers to master the manufacturing side of the business and perfect the fundamentals of the discipline. Without new blood taking up the trade as a lifelong occupation, lapidary mentors will be left without heirs apparent.
If you’ve ever aspired of becoming a professional jewellery maker, now is a fantastic time to finally launch your career. Start feeding your curiosity with an in-person class near you in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, or Perth!
