About This Class

Class Schedule

  • 16 Sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays over 8 weeks
  • Duration: 5 Hours per session, 10am - 3pm

What You Will Learn

  • How to sample and test soil and growing media
  • How to plant and maintain permaculture crops
  • How to recognise and identify plants

What You Get

  • An opportunity to test out whether horticulture or further accredited training is for you
  • A great grounding in the basics of horticulture/permaculture on our 4.5 hectare urban farm working alongside our range of social enterprises such as our Honey Lane Organic Market Garden and our Propagation Area
  • On successful completion 3 units from AHC20416 Cert II in Horticulture which can be credited against either a full Cert II or a range of Cert III's in the Horticulture Package


There is a maximum of 15 places in this class.  Course delivery includes a range of activities and methodologies including practical demonstration and hands on learning, class discussion and use of a range of written and on-line materials.

CERES will provide all course written and gardening related learning resources.  Students are required to provide and wear appropriate attire for working outdoors including safety boots where possible.

Assessment will be conducted in line with the Training Packages's requirements and will be through a range of practical demonstrations and some written assignments.

As part of the course enrolment process we provide a short Literacy & Numeracy test to determine any support needs and this will be sent to you.  If you do not wish to undertake this you may sign a waiver, e.g. you have successfully completed a higher qualification. 

Please note that this course is only available to domestic students.
