Introduction to Spinning
Learn the ancient craft of spinning yarn in this hands-on 5-week course with expert guidance from the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria.
You don't need any spinning experience, and all equipment and initial materials will be provided. This includes a spinning wheel to use during class and take home for the duration of the course. You may bring your own wheel if it is in working condition to learn on.
Course content:
- Fleece suitability and preparation
- Wheel types/adjustments
- Spin an even yarn and ply a balanced yarn
- Skeining and dyeing
- Blending fleeces e.g. mohair, alpaca &/or silk
- Making your very own yarn for your knitting, crochet or weaving projects

Your Teacher
Caroline has been an art and craft teacher for nearly 40 years, teaching primary, secondary and adults. She has been a spinner for over 40 years and in the last few years has become enamoured with the rich history and portability of the support spindle. She gets a real joy out of sharing knowledge and seeing people gain new skills.

The Guild's aim is to bring together those who practise handweaving, spinning and allied crafts and to help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills by discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of quality resource materials.
Our Guild rooms house an excellent library and craft supply, sell members work and host a wonderful range of interest groups, classes and workshops.
We have members and affiliated groups throughout the state.

If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

- A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. Free of charge.
- A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
