Introduction to Spinning
Learn the ancient craft of spinning yarn in this hands-on 5-week course with expert guidance from the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria.
You don't need any spinning experience, and all equipment and initial materials will be provided. This includes a spinning wheel to use during class and take home for the duration of the course. You may bring your own wheel if it is in working condition to learn on.
Course content:
- Fleece suitability and preparation
- Wheel types/adjustments
- Spin an even yarn and ply a balanced yarn
- Skeining and dyeing
- Blending fleeces e.g. mohair, alpaca &/or silk
- Making your very own yarn for your knitting, crochet or weaving projects
Class sessions:
First Term - February (sold out)
- Sunday 1 February - 9am to 12noon
- Sunday 8 February - 9am to 12noon
- Sunday 22 February - 9am to 12noon
- Sunday 1 March - 9am to 12noon
- Sunday 8 March - 9am to 12noon
- Sunday 22 March - 9am to 10am (Returning spinning wheel)
Second Term - April-May:
- Wednesday 15 April - 6pm to 9pm
- Wednesday 22 April - 6pm to 9pm
- Wednesday 29 April - 6pm to 9pm
- Wednesday 6 May - 6pm to 9pm
- Wednesday 13 May - 6pm to 9pm
- Wednesday 27 May - 6pm to 7pm (returning spinning wheel)

You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.
