DIY in Melbourne covers a lot more than power tools. It is the catch-all for making things properly with your hands — throwing a pot, keeping bees, knitting on a machine, building a moss ball planter — usually in a small group with everything supplied.
Learn wheel throwing with the renowned Slow Clay method at Slow Clay Centre in Collingwood, rated 4.89 from 158 reviews. Keep bees with Bee Sustainable in Brunswick East (4.94 from 101 reviews). Learn Japanese kokedama at Ikebana Studio MA in South Yarra, or take a freestyle sewing session, crochet course or knitting-machine class at Thread Den in Fitzroy.
Further out, Montsalvat in Eltham runs Raku firing in its heritage arts precinct, and Merryl's Mosaics in Caulfield South runs mosaic, glass and craft programs.
