This workshop intensive is for potters who are ready to go bigger on the wheel. You’ll practise how to centre more clay, throw larger forms, and use discuss sectional techniques to build tall, bold pieces.
Led by experienced potter and TNP Founder, Daniel D'Appio, this workshop is ideal for those who are already comfortable throwing medium-sized work and want to take the next step. It’s a deep dive into the techniques, tools, and mindset needed to scale up successfully with guidance, demos, and plenty of studio time to practise.
You’ll explore how to manage the weight and structure of large pots, join sections cleanly, and troubleshoot common issues when working big. We’ll also touch on trimming, drying, and studio-safe handling of larger work.
You will learn
- 4 hours of expert instruction (including a short lunch break)
- the basics of throwing big and how to handle large volumes of clay
- A demonstration of how to join larger forms together
You will get
- Firing of one large piece (additional pieces can be fired at standard studio rates)
- A supported studio environment with wheels, space, and tools and Tea, coffee, and light snacks throughout the day
Appropriate for

With over 20 years of experience working with clay, I’ve created a space where people of all skill levels can slow down, get their hands dirty and enjoy the rhythm of the process.
From wheel throwing to handbuilding and everything in between, our classes are relaxed, welcoming and always just the right amount of muddy. There’s plenty of tea, good chats and no pressure to be perfect — just come along and make something!

So glad you enjoyed the class, Samantha! You absolutely nailed it with that 3kg challenge! And it was brilliant to see you dive into something new with such enthusiasm. Sally and I loved having you in the studio, and we can’t wait to see what you create next.
Hope to see you again soon!
Thanks so much, Marina! It was a real pleasure having you in the studio for the intensive. You brought such a great energy to the day and handled those larger forms like a champ. I can’t wait for you to see how your pieces turn out especially with the awesome dots!
