what students are saying
Discover the ancient art of Kurinuki, a Japanese hand-carving technique that embraces imperfection and celebrates natural, organic forms. In this immersive workshop, you’ll start with a solid block of clay and carve it into a one-of-a-kind cup that reflects your unique vision. No two Kurinuki cups are ever the same, making this a perfect experience for beginners or those looking to unleash their creative side.
We teach in small groups of no more than 8 and encourage you to have as much fun as you can in two hours!
Enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you fuelled while you create.
If you are interested in joining us for this activity as a private group, please reach out through our Choose Your Own Clay Project listing and we can tailor your group to your needs!

Organized by
The Northern Pottery
The Northern Pottery is my clay-covered corner of Hornsby, built around creativity, community and the simple joy of making. With over 20 years of experience working with clay, I’ve created a space where people of all skill levels can slow down, get their hands dirty and enjoy the rhythm of the process.
From wheel throwing to handbuilding and everything in between, our classes are relaxed, welcoming and always just the right amount of muddy. There’s plenty of tea, good chats and no pressure to be perfect — just come along and make something!

Thank you so much Oxana!
We're thrilled to hear that you and your daughter had such a time at our Kurinuki workshop. It was wonderful having both of you in the studio, and we're glad you found the atmosphere warm and welcoming. We take pride in providing a space filled with creative energy where beginners can feel comfortable and confident while exploring pottery.
It's great to hear that you enjoyed the mix of learning new skills and finding relaxation in the process. We believe that pottery should be both fun and therapeutic, and we're glad that you felt that way too. We look forward to welcoming you back for more creative and calming pottery sessions in the future!
Cheers! Daniel
