A playful, beginner friendly pottery wheel workshop where your clay is pre centred so you can jump straight into throwing. You’ll learn the basics, create your own vessel, enjoy a relaxed studio vibe, and leave the rest to us as we glaze and fire your piece. Perfect for anyone wanting a fun creative outing.
You will learn
- How to shape clay on the wheel.
- How the clay moves and responds under your hands.
You will get
- One wheel thrown piece glazed and fired for you. (Additional pieces at $20 each.)
- All materials, tools and wheel use included.
Appropriate for
Adults and teens aged fourteen and above who want a fun, beginner friendly pottery wheel experience with no prior skills needed.
What to bring
- Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on, and bring a small towel and a water bottle.
- All clay, tools and materials are supplied, though you’re welcome to bring your favourite pottery tools if you prefer using your own.
- No need to purchase anything in advance! Just come ready to get messy and enjoy a creative weekend.
What to wear
Wear comfy clothing that can get messy, plus an apron if you have one. Closed-in shoes are strongly recommended and short nails.
The Clay and Play session is run by the team at The Northern Pottery. Our teachers bring a friendly, encouraging style that keeps things relaxed and fun while making sure you get a great result on the wheel. Expect expert guidance, easygoing energy, and plenty of laughs.
Organized by
The Northern Pottery
The Northern Pottery is my clay-covered corner of Hornsby, built around creativity, community and the simple joy of making. With over 20 years of experience working with clay, I’ve created a space where people of all skill levels can slow down, get their hands dirty and enjoy the rhythm of the process.
From wheel throwing to handbuilding and everything in between, our classes are relaxed, welcoming and always just the right amount of muddy. There’s plenty of tea, good chats and no pressure to be perfect — just come along and make something!
