Throw a Sake Set – Pottery Wheel Workshop
In this pottery wheel workshop you will learn how to throw a sake bottle and matching cups using the technique of throwing off the hump. A fun and focused session designed to help you improve consistency and efficiency on the wheel.

You will learn
- How to throw multiple small forms using the off the hump technique
- How to shape a small bottle and cups with control
- How to refine and prepare pieces for firing
You will get
- Three hours of guided wheel throwing instruction
- All clay, tools and materials included
- Finished pieces trimmed and glazed in house
Appropriate for
Potters aged eighteen and above who have basic wheel throwing experience and want to improve their technique
Preparation
What to bring
- Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on, and bring a small towel and a water bottle.
- All clay, tools and materials are supplied, though you’re welcome to bring your favourite pottery tools if you prefer using your own.
- No need to purchase anything in advance! Just come ready to get messy and enjoy a creative weekend.
What to wear
Wear comfy clothing that can get messy, plus an apron if you have one. Closed-in shoes are strongly recommended and short nails.

From wheel throwing to handbuilding and everything in between, our classes are relaxed, welcoming and always just the right amount of muddy. There’s plenty of tea, good chats and no pressure to be perfect — just come along and make something!
Cancellations & Refunds
If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.
OR
- A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.
- A transfer can be requested 3 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
- A credit note can be requested 3 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
Terms & Conditions
Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at The Northern Pottery or organised by The Northern Pottery must agree to these terms and conditions.
1.) LIABILITY WAIVER
I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by The Northern Pottery
2.) PHOTO & VIDEO
I agree to give The Northern Pottery unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at The Northern Pottery classes and events or on The Northern Pottery premises. (For use of The Northern Pottery marketing materials).
