November's Masterclass is an introduction to food sovereignty and agroecology. If these terms are unfamiliar, then this Masterclass is for you! Join farmer, butcher and food sovereignty advocate Tammi Jonas as she empowers you to support and promote food sovereignty in your gardening and horticultural decisions - and beyond.
In this Masterclass Tammi will
- Define food sovereignty and agroecology – what is it?
- Outline the science, set of practices and social movements behind food sovereignty – how you can contribute
- The role of home gardeners in reducing food insecurity at home and in our communities
Understanding food sovereignty forms an integral part of sustainable gardening principles enabling People Care, Planet Care and Fair Share; so start (or continue) your journey with us this November!
All sessions are recorded, and participants receive a recording link which is active for one month. Friends of SGA (FOSGA) receive a 15% discount on Masterclass full price tickets. You can become a Friend of SGA here. Green Garden Professionals (GGPs) receive a 30% discount.

Your Teacher
Tammi Jonas is an agrarian scholar activist raising heritage-breed pigs, cattle, and garlic with her husband Stuart at Jonai Farms and Meatsmiths on the unceded lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung in central Victoria. A lifelong enthusiastic home gardener, Tammi is a passionate advocate of food sovereignty, leading by example at the farm by sharing their land rent-free with the First Nations-run market garden Tumpinyeri Growers and running a micro-abattoir with a collective of local farms. Tammi is the focal point for farmers with the Agroecology & Food Sovereignty Alliance (AFSA), a member of La Vía Campesina, an international organisation advocating for everyone’s right to participate in decisions about food and agriculture systems and has a PhD researching the rise of agroecology in Australia.

- Bookings are considered final once payment is made and no refunds will be given for non-attendance.
- If there are insufficient numbers for an event it may be cancelled or postponed by SGA. If this is the case, you will be notified and given the option of either a full refund or a transfer to a different SGA event of equivalent value.
