Join us for a hands-on creative experience in a professional artist’s studio! In this intimate small-group workshop, you’ll learn the art of soft sculpture — designing and crafting your own unique critter using a variety of textile techniques.

Guided by an experienced artist, participants will explore both hand stitching and sewing machine methods to bring their imaginative creatures to life. You’ll discover how to design, create, and embellish your sculpture with personality and flair.

All materials are provided, including textiles, stuffing, beads, and a trove of intriguing found objects for decoration. Whether you're new to sewing or an experienced maker looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers a fun, supportive space to experiment with texture, form, and storytelling through fabric.

Come ready to stitch, stuff, and sculpt your very own soft companion! This is a 4 hour workshop and you may not finish you piece, however you will be able to complete at home especially if you are hand stitching a lot of detail.

Make a day of it!

After the workshop, explore the beauty of the countryside. Visit local award-winning wineries like Lethbridge Wines, Austin Wines, or Clyde Park, all known for delicious food and scenic views. Or stay the weekend in nearby Ballarat or Geelong.

Samantha Thompson Studio

Im a professional artist that offers workshops from my country studio. I love to share my experiences in printmaking, including linocut and monoprinting, learn how to coptic stitch handmade books. I offer contemporary pastel workshops andI also teach textile classes.

The studio has several rooms that includes a print and textile room. Class sizes are small and intimate, generally between 3 and 6 participants so everyone gets a maximum amount of time to discuss their ideas and learn.

Samantha Thompson is a multidisciplinary artist and regional arts advocate based in Golden

Plains Shire, Victoria, Australia. Her practice operates at the intersection of contemporary art

and craft, with a sustained focus on printmaking. Through these mediums, she interrogates

the cultural conditions of play in adulthood. Characterised by a vibrant and deliberately

playful aesthetic, her work engages feminist discourse through the reactivation of “feminine-

coded” modes of making. Thompson’s materially diverse and often upcycled works extend

beyond object-based outcomes, translating into performance and public art contexts. Central

to her practice is an investment in intergenerational knowledge, particularly the transmission

of craft through familial and informal pedagogies. This mixture of conceptual inquiry and

academic research underpins her recent series, Relationship to Play, which examines the

social and psychological conditions that shape adult engagement with play, advocating for its

renewed integration into everyday life.
