Gloworm Studios is a unique art school located in the heart of Northcote. Led by professional illustrator Marianna Marx, our programs specialise in painting, drawing and illustration. Our classes are kept small to make sure each student receives the quality attention they deserve. Gloworm Studios is a warm and nurturing environment where artists both young and young at heart are invited to immerse themselves in their creativity and imagination.

Marianna Marx has taught art alongside her illustration career for the past 10 years. Her experiences include working in the education department at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, an artist residency at Caulfield Grammar School, one on one art tutoring for children and adults, after school art classes, corporate workshops and working alongside artists with intellectual disabilities. Marianna has taken insight from each of these experiences to create an art school of her own where she can share her love for creative expression with others in her local community.

19 October 2018 • Botanical Illustration for Beginners

Marianna's workshop in botanical illustration for beginners provided very detailed instruction in a very relaxed and supportive environment. Marianna was mindful of the needs and wishes of individuals, offering constructive feedback and a wealth of ideas and tips! Comprehensive follow up notes were included also. Highly recommended!

07 October 2018 • "I Spy" Holiday Painting and Drawing Workshop

My name is Pia and I am nearly 8. In these school holidays I went to Glow Worm Studio for the first time. I had been wanting to go for a long time since we moved house. I did the I Spy picture which involved using watercolours. If you finish before the end you write down a list of what hidden features the viewer needs to find. Marianna showed us how to draw different animals. I really liked the really good quality paper we used. It was an Australian bush picture where there was orange ground, blue sky and Australian animals. Marianna put this special masking tape around the edges to make like a frame and then at the end she pulled it off and it didn't hurt the paper. Can't wait to do the next one! September 2018
