KBAB New Member Orientation session
Description
An Introduction session for a new Member at KBAB
How to forge and work at the Kalgoorlie Boulder Artisan Blacksmiths (KBAB) Shed.
This session will take new or prospective members through how to get going at the forge (the building) and how to use the forge (the item) and how to forge (the action). This should allow you to then start your self learning journey into artist blacksmithing, or be in good stead to join other guided workshops as they come up.
Open to Adults and accompanied minors.
For a beginner we start with the introduction to our workshop and the equipment contained within, and what is covered with our membership and usage costs.
We will go through making either a Hook or a simple fire poker starting with the very basics so no previous experience is needed. You’ll start with learning about the forges, tools & hammer technique to give you a solid foundation to start creating metal art.
This introduction session runs from 8:30am to around Midday or whenever you've had enough. Please aim to arrive by 8:15am.
Please wear enclosed boots or shoes, cotton jeans or work-pants & cotton shirt - no flammable materials.
We can supply Eye and Ear protection.
Please also bring a water bottle as it is important you are hydrated, we finish around lunch time so you can either bring lunch or you can purchase from nearby vendors on Burt street if you wish to stay and continue forging in the afternoon.
Total Fire Ban Information
If we are subject to a total fire ban we will reschedule the session. We are not in control of when a total fire ban will be called, these are issued at 6pm the day before and we will be in touch if need be.
