Bees aren’t too fussy about where they live, but beekeepers seem to have many ideas on which home is best for them! Unpack the mysteries of hive architecture, lean to build your own equipment, and get expert advise on using beekeeping tools.

- Understand the pros and cons of different hive styles such as top bar, Warre’, Langstroth, poly, and more;
- Investigate different foundation styles and how to use them;
- Assemble Langstroth beehive boxes and frames;
- Discuss swarm bait hives/rescue boxes/Nucleus hives
- Learn how and to use beekeeping tools like wiring jigs, frame making and painting jigs
Participants get to take home their first assembled and wired beehive frame
Benedict Hughes, The Practical Beekeeper
Benedict Hughes is a registered Beekeeper. As The Practical Beekeeper he collects swarms, manages hives, extracts honey, teaches and loves bees. Benedict is a member of the Beekeeper State Quarantine Response Team with the Victorian Government (emergency beekeeper), is the resident Beekeeper at Ceres in Brunswick and is approved by the City of Darebin to keep bees in Darebin Parklands and Bundoora Park. Benedict regularly runs sessions about bees and about backyard beekeeping for kids and adults.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Pollinator Alliance or organised by Pollinator Alliance must agree to these terms and conditions.
1.) LIABILITY WAIVER
I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by Pollinator Alliance.
Participation in Beekeeping classes and workshops are at your own risk. Whilst we take every precaution to take reasonable care of our customers, we acknowledge that bees and the natural environment can pose risk, and your attendance at our classes waives our liability for any injuries that occur.
2.) PHOTO & VIDEO
I agree to give Pollinator Alliance unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Pollinator Alliance classes and events or on Pollinator Alliance’s premises. (For use of Pollinator Alliance marketing materials).
3.) REFUNDS
Bookings are strictly not transferable to other dates. Please double check the date of the workshop before booking, cancellations will result in forfeit of payment.
Please note there are no refunds on classes and classes cannot be switched post booking. By purchasing this class you agree to these terms and conditions. However, if you’re unable to attend please feel free to send someone else in your place.
4.) CANCELLATIONS
In the event that a class is cancelled, students will be notified via text message or email and entitled to a full refund or credit. We reserve the right to cancel due to insufficient numbers or if weather is not suitable for beekeeping & will refund you 100% of the fee.
Payment of class or event is confirmation of your place(s) in the class. Minimum numbers apply for each class, if we require the class(es) to be postponed or cancelled, a refund will be offered.
