Learn to Sew - School Holiday Fun!

About This Class

What You Will Learn

  • You will learn to sew and make your very own shopper bag!
  • We will cover basic hand and machine stitches and sewing safety, plus how to correctly pin and cut projects.
  • You will learn to sew corners and curved shapes to appliqué your bag front (with pre cut shaped felt/ fabric pieces). Then we shall sew up front to back, finish the seam raw edges and secure the straps.

What You Get

  • A unique, handmade shopping bag!

In this fun workshop to be held these school holidays at Work-Shop Makery, Mindy would like to teach your child aged 8 and up how to sew. We will be making tote bags, great for shopping, library book carrying and weekend activities!

Mindy will be very happy to guide and inspire each child’s own ideas, or they can use the templates and sample ideas provided.

This is a beginners class - so if any Mum's and Dads are keen to learn to sew too, you would be most welcome to join by also booking a place.

Mindy McTaggart had her first machine sewing lesson with her great Aunt at the age of about 5 or 6 sewing on a treadle Singersewing machine. Her project was to make aprons for said Aunts fellow nuns of the Order of the Sacred Heart.

She progressed on to an electrical machine and bigger and better projects.

In her final year if Fashion Design Studies, at the Narional Art School, Mindy  was selected as the Australian Candidate for the Smirnoff International Fashion Award. Here she showcased a small collection she printed, embellished, cut and sewed together, titled The Altered Image.

Today in Partnership with Emma Cotterill, Mindy creates bespoke and Avante Garde styles for their label Millicent Darling - where their work is often featured in Hairdressing campaigns and Magazines.
