Traditional Scissor Making with Grace Horne
This three day course covers the basics of European-style scissor making. The workshop work will use blanks of modified Sheffield pattern however classroom talks will cover history, development and cultural differences of scissors. There will also be a classroom talk on design fundamentals with the aim that the students can leave the course with a finished working pair of scissors and the design tools to make more pairs in the future.
Students get workbooks and forged blanks to shape, file, polish, fit and sharpen. They will leave with at least one finished pair of scissors and all the ’tools’ they need to make scissors in the future. All the work we will be doing will be stock removal, however this course will equip them with the specialist knowledge to forge or machine scissor parts independently in the future.
Student MUST have experience in a metal workshop and know how to use a grinder and drill press safely.
