What blacksmithing techniques will I learn in the Blacksmith Introduction class?

The 2-day Blacksmith Introduction covers forging, tapering, riveting, twisting, and hand forging techniques. You'll learn how to use a gas furnace to heat steel, become familiar with anvil parts and their functions, and work safely in a group environment. By the end of the course, you'll have completed your own plant stand or stool using these techniques.

Can I make a sterling silver ring in one day with no jewelry experience?

Yes. The Make a Ring in a Day Workshop is specifically designed for beginners with no prior experience. Over one day, you'll learn roller printing, soldering with jewelry torches, finishing techniques, and patination. You'll create a complete sterling silver ring band that you design and make yourself.

What is included in the Intro to Ceramics 4-session course?

The 4-session beginners course covers throwing, trimming, hand-building, and glazing techniques. You'll complete 3-4 finished pieces by the end of the course. One session focuses specifically on hand-building using coil and slab techniques, plus an efficient plate-forming method. Classes don't run on public holidays.

How long does the Introduction to Knife-making course take, and what will I make?

The intensive weekend course runs Saturday and Sunday with a small class size of only 4 people. You'll forge and use stock-removal techniques to craft a high-carbon steel chef's knife. Saturday covers design, profiling, and heat-treating. Sunday includes grinding, polishing, handle shaping, and final sharpening. You'll take home a completed, functional knife.

What sewing techniques are taught in the Beginner & Beyond Learn to Sew Course?

The 5 or 10-week course covers how to thread and use your sewing machine, essential stitches, seam allowances, and foundational techniques for absolute beginners. It's suitable for beginners through intermediate sewists, with small groups receiving personalized guidance. You'll work on structured projects or your own ideas, with a 20% deposit required at booking.

What is lost wax casting, and which workshops teach this technique?

Lost wax casting is a traditional jewelry-making technique where a wax model is carved, sprued to a wax tree, placed in investment plaster, and then cast. The Carve a Silver Ring workshop (2 days) and Wax Carving for Jewels workshop (4 days) teach this technique. The 2-day course focuses on carving wax rings, while the 4-day course includes stone-setting and soldering for more advanced skills.

Sydney's craft scene is built around real workshops rather than pop-ups — a working blacksmith's forge in Eveleigh, jewellery benches in Marrickville and Zetland, a riso press in the inner west, and a weaving guild that has been teaching spinning for decades.

Hammer hot steel at Eveleigh Works, the oldest working blacksmith shop in the southern hemisphere. Cast your own silver ring at SquarePeg Studios or The Bench Jewellery School. Learn to sew properly at ARTSPARK in Rozelle, pull a riso print at The Rizzeria, or take up spinning and weaving with the Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild of NSW.

Rather than endless scrolling, we track every craft class running across Sydney and surface the highest-rated makers, the busiest workshop suburbs, and the classes people book again.
