Spinning Cotton
Spin Cotton from Bolls, Punis, and Sliver.
Materials will be supplied, cotton bolls, ginned cotton, and sliver.
Your wheel needs to have a ratio 12-1 or higher, cotton carders or at least the finest of wool carders that you have, dowel stick 5mm at lest 5 cm longer than carders.

You will learn
- Making Punis, spinning from the punis.
- Cotton Bolls and Sliver all with a long draw method.
You will get
- The knowledge of what is required when spinning cotton to create thread that can be used for many different crafts.
Appropriate for
Previous experience in spinning other fibres such as wool.
Preparation
What to bring
- Students are to bring a spinning wheel and all usual spinning requirements and it needs to have a ratio 12-1 or higher.
- Cotton Carders or at least finest wool carders, 5mm Dowel stick 5cm longer than the carders.
- If students are setting up their wheels at home I recommend the lightest weight drive band that will turn your wheel.

Your Tutor is Jay Peterson she has been a handspinner for 40 years and became a fan of cotton spinning after Joan Ruane visited Australia in 2018. Spinning Cotton also encourages long draw spinning which many spinners say they " cant do ". Spinning cotton bolls is a fun thing to do.
