This intricate pattern is so much easier than it looks, it is all about the threading. We will be looking at three different ways to do a direct warping of the loom and achieve the colour and weave threading. Suitable for complete beginners and for those who want to explore plain weave possibilities on the rigid heddle loom

Appropriate for

The class would be suitable for beginners and for those who want to explore plain weave possibilities on the rigid heddle loom.

Preparation

What to bring

  • Your own rigid heddle loom if possible. Clamp and warping peg. Threading hook, two shuttles, tape measure, scissors, pen and paper.
  • Yarn. Any yarn with a smooth finish is suitable. Wool or cotton is probably best. Two strongly contrasting colours of the same type and weight, a third colour may be used.
  • You need to have yarn suitable for a heddle you have for your loom. As we will be doing plain weave, half the ruler wrap of your yarn is a good starting point. If you have a 7.5 dpi heddle then a ruler wrap of about 15 wraps per inch will work well. One option we look at uses doubled yarn, so it is possible to use something finer
