Description

Eco Printing & Natural Dyeing

Taught by Nichola Prested

Join us in this full day workshop where we will learn how eco print and dye fabrics and fibres using a variety of local and everyday seasonal plants. You will learn how to prepare and mordant your fibres, the various ways of extracting colour from plants, safety and more.

We will be working with a number of plants on the day to create dye pots in which we will add a selection of fibres. With the dye pots we will experiment with after mordanting, over-dyeing and more. You will also eco-print a silk scarf with leaves and flowers.

You will go home with with swatches of yarn and fabrics, your own eco printed silk scarf and an info sheet with details of how you can continue natural dyeing at home.

Natural dyes can stain clothing and footwear, so be sure to wear something dark or old!

I had no idea of the process before we began and I felt like I was fully equipped by the end of the session. The timing of the steps was great. I love my little look book of samples that I can now refer to. Really looking forward to dyeing all of my own wool from now on.

A fabulous day, jam packed with information, opportunities to discover new techniques and new thinking. Topped of by being with lovely group in a great environment. I came away with a renewed determination to integrate eco dyeing and printing into my range of products and services, and the tools to share with others. Loved it!
